Going Out

Giddy with love and music

CONCERT
Ogie Alcasid: Faces of My Life
Aug. 24 and 25, 8 p.m.
Music Museum, Greenhills Shopping Complex, San Juan

After unloading his long-suppressed feelings, Ogie Alcasid seems to be on Cloud Nine.

He no longer has to deny his romance with singer Regine Velasquez. His failed marriage with Miss Australia-Universe 1994 Michelle Van Eimeren is over.

"I am just very thankful that I am now free to express my love for Regine (Ms. Velasquez)," Mr. Alcasid said in a recent television interview. "She is the only one in my life, and she’ll definitely be the last," he further declared.

To celebrate his 40th birthday, Mr. Alcasid will have a two-night concert this weekend with no one else but Ms. Velasquez.

Called Ogie Alcasid: Faces of My Life, the concert will have former basketball player Chris Tan as stage director. Mark Lopez is the show’s musical director.

The show’s producer, television host Sherilyn Reyes-Tan, said the concert will feature Mr. Alcasid singing songs that are "meaningful" to him and Ms. Velasquez. The lovebirds have collaborated on a couple of memorable love songs, including the 2000 chart-topper "Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw," and the 2002 hit "Hanggang Ngayon."

Aside from making beautiful music together, the couple also works as a tandem on two television shows. Mr. Alcasid and Ms. Velasquez are the main hosts of GMA Network, Inc.’s Sunday noontime variety program S.O.P. Recently, the two signed on to be the hosts of GMA’s newest reality talent show, Celebrity Duets.

Those who see Mr. Alcasid nowadays cannot help but notice how the singer-songwriter always seems giddy, like a schoolboy on his first date, whenever he talks about Ms. Velasquez. In a magazine interview, where he declared his love with the songbird, Mr. Alcasid said: "I am crazy about her."

Mr. Alcasid clarified that he and his wife, Ms. Eimeren, had already called it quits before he started courting Ms. Velasquez. He explained that he decided not to immediately announce his romance with Ms. Velasquez, to protect her from those who would criticize their relationship.

Tickets for Ogie Alcasid: Faces of My Life cost P1,545; P1,236; and P824. For inquiries, and reservations, call TicketWorld at 891-9999.
